Pre-Build

After many years debating whether to move house or extend our current house, we finally decided to draw up plans for an extension. In 2006 we called in an architect with the brief of turning our galley kitchen into a dining-kitchen and using the space above the garage to create an additional bedroom and en-suite. After several meetings and some debate the plan was finalised. The kitchen would almost double in size. The utility room, which is currently open plan, will be closed off. The stairs would be re-routed through the garage to reach a landing leading to 4 bedrooms (1 with en-suite) and a bathroom. Our existing airing cupboard would be re-located.

Building regulations passed the plans without changes in 2007, despite some initial reservations. We didn’t progress things from this stage for a while. The idea of the whole house being disrupted at this time wasn’t appealing. We were also a little confused about what to do with the kitchen. Although the space was larger, at first glance we weren’t going to get much more storage space. Early in 2008 we finally decided to go ahead with the build. The start date was set as 23 June...
